Rules for replacing helmets?

I got knocked over today by someone who didn't realize she was skating into me, landed on my butt and then the back of my head. It made a nice CRACK when I hit the ice, but I was ok after a second or two, no dizziness or anything. The helmet appears to be fine, for sure I was grateful to be wearing it!

Anyway, how many of that sort of incident are helmets able to take? I know bike helmets, car seats, etc. are supposed to be replaced after even minor accidents, but I'd think that hockey helmets are a little stronger since it's assumed that you WILL be in multiple incidents over the life of the helmet.
