Ottawa Senators 2014-15 Season Summary

The Sens improved upon last year's 91 points by putting up 96 points in the 2014-15 NHL regular season. They had a record of 44-30-8, good for seventh in the East. The team's success was mostly thanks to rookie defender Cody Ceci, who became the first rookie to win the James Norris Trophy. He had 12 goals and 45 assists and was a +11. He also finished second in voting for the Calder Trophy, but lost to Antti Roppo for rookie of the year. When they had to face the defending Stanley Cup Champions, Philadelphia, in round one of the playoffs, everyone thought the Sens were done for. However, they came out on top in six games.

In round two, the Sens were put up against the #1 team in the East, division rival Buffalo. Buffalo was too strong of a team for Ottawa, as they defeated the Sens in five games.

Down in the AHL, the Binghamton Senators had the best record in the regular season. (53-14-9) Their new top line was outstanding: Mika Zibanejad had 34 goals and 52 assists for 86 points in 76 games, Hunter Shinkaruk had 32 goals and 70 assists for 102 points, and Matt Puempel had 58 goals and 46 assists for 104 points. The trio led Binghamton all the way to the conference finals, where they lost in six games to the Springfield Falcons.

I'll post player progression and offseason moves in a little bit...
