The Winter Classic will be formally cancelled on Friday, not to take a leverage point away from the NHLPA but rather due to dates built into the contract with the Univerity of Michigan for the stadium. Nov. 3rd is the last date to cancel without losing more than the $100K deposit. When the NHL signed the contract, they built in a work stoppage clause. The league also split the rental fee for the stadium into five payments, the next one is due on Friday. Want to bet if that ever takes place?

It took me a LONG time and a lot of effort to secure tickets to the WC and ALL of the additional games, if it gets cancelled this week I will not be a happy person to be around this weekend - nor will my friend from California who purchased flights months ago.

However the University has stated if the game is cancelled, they would be willing to host it in 2014. I just don't think I will be watching NHL hockey anymore at that point.
