Those people stay, thinking they'll be able to ride it out. And then they can't, so they have to call to get taken out and put rescuers lives in danger. It drives me nuts. What do you have to gain from staying?
If someone is from a landlocked state, I could see them not knowing better.
Or even if someone is from a coastal state like Jersey but lives inland I could see it.
But if you
on a barrier island, I'd think you'd kind of get the concept that the "land" you live on is not really land at all, but a non-permanent, shifting, thin pile of sand. Completely blows my mind.
