Murray 1st Star in Losing Effort

The Kamloops Blazers continued their torrid start to the season, downing the Everett Silvertips 3-2 in a shootout tonight. Ryan Murray had an assist, went for a -2, but was named the first star in his home rink. The Blazers' top line of Bozon-Smith-Lipon once again factored in the offense, scoring both goals (they are the top three scorers in the entire league), and Murray was tasked with playing against them all night. The Blazers are averaging nearly 5 goals per game, and have won 16 of 17; with each of those players averaging at least 1.7 points per game (Lipon has nearly a 2.5 per/game average). I think it would have to be considered a success that he held those guys in check as well as he did. Another thing of note is that the Silvertips' back end is short due to a suspension to second pairing shutdown defender Nick Walters.

Murray for the season:
16 games, 2 goals, 13 assists, even rating, 12 PIMs. He is currently on a 7 game point streak, tied for the longest amongst defensemen thus far this year.
