2007 was the bad year to suck. It was also a bad year to be Oilers. Pronger left less than 12 months, Ryan Smyth got moved at the deadline. The team finished just outside the lottery--the year after going to the SC finals. Fans needed hope and the Oilers sold Gagner as the next one. The success of the kid line the following year raised the expectations exponentially. Then the inevitable happened.
