The problem is that the NHLPA is only willing to back down to 50% it it happens just before the end of the CBA, contingent upon high revenue growth, and with their current 57% intact for the near future.

Which is to say, they're not really agreeing to 50%. They're simply including that number in the proposal because it would look unreasonable to continue to still be using 57% this late in the game. But they have yet to present a proposal that includes a guaranteed reduction in salary any time soon.
