It's because cognitively he 'knows' both of their names. It's just that the name he 'knows' for Wellwood is wrong, but he can spell the wrong name right, if it makes sense. It's like if you thought Britain was Kazahkstan. You wouldn't have any problems spelling "let's go see Big Ben in Kazakhstan", it would just be the wrong identifier for that particular country.
