My parents were immigrants to the country... so no, there wasn't really any affinity for hockey in the family. It's something I kind of discovered and picked up on my own, and perhaps the main reason why I started learning to skate and then finally playing the game relatively late.

My dad was okay with me playing. It was expensive but we could afford it. My mom hated the idea of me playing, but I suppose she recognized how badly I wanted to play and let me go through with it.
