As long as you keep him away from a Mark Stuart caliber "defensemen" anyone would want him
(at the right price... just like anyone would want any other top6/4 guy at the right price). His defensive ability is actually highly underrated.
The real problem with him is:
1) he sometimes makes poor decisions pinching
2) a lot of his pinches were covered by players who can't play defence: Stapleton, Glass, Thorburn, and revolving door of AHL players
3) almost all of his '-' plus/minus came from being paired with Stuart... who did the same to Bogosian
Homer rant on:
People can pay too much attention to highlight bloopers because it sticks in your mind better but when you create more offensive opportunities for your team than you do for the other
(loosely measured by corsi) and score more than the other team does... who cares. For Byfuglien, check on both for whenever he wasn't with Stuart because 2 of 4 top4 D were injured.
