For all intent and purposes they are negotiating off of the discussions S Fehr and Daly had on the weekend. NHLPA wanted it in writing and the NHL provided that. Now it's the "fine tuning" the "nitty gritty", whatever you like to call it.

Thought they might be able to get it done by the end of the week, lawyers write it up next week and both parties take it to their membership for a vote... could still happen if they negotiate through the weekend.

That they are still talking is a good sign...they are negotiating rather than throwing darts at each other. Its a fine line. One side says "well we think this is a little to high, can you go to this?" other side says "well if we do that then you have to give a little on that"

They may have only talked for 5 1/2 hours this time, at least to each other, but both sides went their own way to discuss what has been brought up to see if they "can give x to take y."

If there are no further cancellation of games today by the league, and they plan on meeting tomorrow and over the weekend, they are that close.
