What Zubov wasn't that Niedermayer was? A Canadian kid who has a high-profile image of winning. That alone won him a Norris in 2004; Lidstrom drooped offensively, so the writers decided that someone else must be the best defenseman and Niedermayer was the anointed choice - much like Chara in 2009.

I agree with that. I never got how Niedermayer is the clear case that many think he is.
