I guess it depends if you like the action scenes or the actual story. There was a gazillion WW2 movies of varying levels of quality that had great action scenes but the story left much to be desired.

Some of the better movies with a first rate script.

- Gallipoli
- Ran
- Das Boot
- Stalingrad
- All Quiet on the Western Front (1930)
- Paths of Glory

For action sequences

- Saving Private Ryan
- Alexander Nevski
- The Blue Max
- War and Peace (Soviet version)
- Gettysburg
- Starship Troopers

There are some movies like Waterloo, Apocalypse Now and Patton among many others where the cinematography is simply outstanding. Others, such as the initial scenes from Gladiator, are fun to watch despite being completely inaccurate in a historical sense.
