I do not see how this was a gamble, they knew they what they were getting, it would have payed off well for the other teams vying for him as well (Pittsburgh, Detroit and whoever else

A gamble is trading Richards and Carter right in the middle of there prime. A gamble is Columbus actually trading for Carter.
