Frankly, I'm not so sure about this. Datsyuk never stood out in Russia. Skilled? Sure, but so were a bunch of other kids playing Russia. Datsyuk had skill, but he didn't set the Russian League on fire. There is a reason why Hakan was the only one who scouted him. And Russia was well-scouted in the late 90s. Jarnkrok for example, has been far more dominant in SEL.
