The Bisons and 'Birds played this one tight to the vest. Each side scored once in the 1st period and then nothing at all until the 2nd overtime was almost ready to give way to a shoot-out. While the Bisons cannot be happy about the sweep, they at least escape with a point. With the first trip around the league coming to a conclusion next weekend, there exists a very tight race for places 2-6.

Of note, Joe Caligiuri was the Bison goaltender, Dylan Kelly scored his first goal as a Bison, Austin Lauder did not dress and the Bisons played one man short, and the Macauly-Duval-Dittmer line was 0-for-11 in shots on goal.

OUT OF TOWN SCOREBOARD:

LETHBRIDGE PRONGHORNS 2
MOUNT ROYAL COUGARS 3

The New Kittens on the Block needed a win (actually, the same can be said for the H0rny Ones). Anyhow, this split was likely warranted and also denies both sides the sweep they needed to get in the same time zone as a playoff race. Lethbridge took a 1-0 lead after the 1st period. But Mount Royal amassed 36 shots over the 2nd and 3rd periods and pulled into a draw. On the night the shots were 52-31 for MRU, a rather incredible total. Here's an interesting quip:
Quote:
Prior to Saturday’s game Mount Royal University honoured their military history with an on-ice ceremony. The Cougars also wore throw-back jerseys that had poppies emblazoned on the front.

The school’s campus is built on the former site of the Number 3 Flying Training School for pilots. Since the institution’s founding in 1910, 28 members of the Mount Royal community have given their lives while serving Canada. The school remembers those service people with 28 military memorial bursaries, each in the name of a fallen soldier.

ALBERTA GOLDEN BEARS 5

After the Banjo-Cats threw a scare into the Evil Monkeys on Friday night, the rematch was more according to script. Still, the shots were 37-28, not the one-sided butt-kicking we might have seen in the pre-season had these two played. Torrie Dyck scored a hat-trick for the Apes (giving him 9 on the year).

These teams will be the Bisons opponents the next two weekends, the last games the Bisons will have this semester, and both at home.

SASKATCHEWAN HUSKIES 5
CALGARY DINOS 4

After an 8-0 drubbing on Friday, one has to give the Banjo-Mutts credit for rallying their troops and, in the end, escaping with a split.

Calgary seemed to pick up where they left off, leading 2-0 after the 1st period and outshooting their Hillbilly guests 18-6 in the process. What makes the Sask rally more remarkable is that they scored 5 goals on only 17 shots over the 2nd and 3rd periods. Dustin Butler was back in Calgary's goal while Ryan Holfeld was yet again in the Doghouse.
