What do the owners want? 50-50 and changes to contracting rights. Who has to give up more to get there?
Who has been on the giving up side of the equation longer? Back to when Gordie Howe took a leather jacket as a raise. When Terrible Ted tried to first organize a union. When Eaglson who was stealing Bobby Orr's disability pension was conspiring with the current NHL owner and negotiator Jacobs, it has been the players giving up rights and fairness.
The one time things swung in their advantage is when Goodenow came on board and they got free agency. Ever since that terrible living in the real world the owners were forced to go through, they have been locking the players out every cba to try and claw back that victory.
And each cba its like fans say, oh forget the last cba, what can we learn from that, this is a new one.
