In a free market system pricing is set by what the market will bear, things stop escalating when the saturation point or breaking point is reached.

While player's salaries have grown, the NHL with its last proposal is effectively saying that salaries have risen faster than warranted by ~1.7% annually.

I really don't think this supports the picture you were trying to convey.

However, if IMO the next CBA doesn't solve what I believe to be the fundamental issue, then I am done with the NHL.
