In this order. Orr was what Gretzky was offensively to defensemen, but far superior defensively (comparatively), and came with a physical element Gretzky couldn't manage. Gretzky's level of offense is unparalleled.

Howe and Lemieux can be debated, but Howe's physicality takes the cake. Hasek was the next best game changer. Bourque wasn't that far off, except Hasek took worse further. Shore's Hart trophies don't impress given the time, and lack of competition (globally). Jagr dominated everyone with his strength, speed, and skill. I consider Potvin and Lidstrom comparable (except Potvin put his body through hell to put others through more), and if Lidstrom/Pronger/Stevens couldn't keep Jagr in check...
