First step, create space for prospects and/ or free agents.
Regin: let him walk
Lattendresse: likely let him walk
Condra: try and trade him at the draft, otherwise let him walk
Daugavins: same as Condra
Gonchar: let him walk
Lundin: let him walk
From there, I see six forward prospects and four defencemen prospects who are all close and could push for a spot next season, they are:
Forwards: Zibanejad, Stone, Silfverberg, Noesen, Hoffman and Dziurzynski
Defencemen: Boroweicki, Gryba, Wiercioch and Ceci
The performance of these ten players this season, will be an indication of how many spots to potentially leave open for them.
Next step, UFA targets
Iginla, Perry, Morrow, Horton, Clowe, Clarkson
Defencemen: Regehr, Edler, Murray
Next step, assuming that we sign Perry and one other forward UFA on the list above, or we sign Perry and two or three forward prospects have stand out seasons, trade Michalek. Michalek is a little too injury prone and it is just a matter of time before he gets injured again and his play begins to regress. Ideally we trade him for someone like Zach Bogosian.
That would leave us with a lineup of:
