These players are not in the twilights of their careers. Toronto has shown a willingness to build around them. What if they acquire Luongo and he has a sub-par year. By your logic, the Leafs really only have one year to wow Kessel and Phaneuf. There is no guarantee Luongo will be the one to do that.
