I'm on board with Swisher because he could fill any or all of a number of need positions. We have needs at LF, RF and 1B right now, and Swisher can play all 3 of those positions pretty well, and will hit. So it's a lower risk move because he's not blocking any one player right now -- if Bradley, say, gets hot enough to deserve a roster spot, you slide Swisher to 1B. And in the meantime, it makes getting Papi into the lineup for NL games much simpler. Just bench your worst corner OF.

In other words, unlike the stupidity of the Gonzalez trade, signing Swisher actually increases your options and versatility. That's a nice bonus when you consider you're also adding a very solid bat.
