Just to make the case for my Avs:
They've never had the first overall pick since coming to Colorado almost two decades ago, the highest they've ever picked was Landeskog (second overall) and Duchene (third overall).
They've got an excellent young core that was in the playoff hunt until the final weeks of the season last year despite having our most talented player go down for much of the year and our only standout defensemen missing serious time.
Our coach is Joe Sacco, a man so clueless to the art of scoring goals that he thought a Lindstrom/DrunkJones-Staz-Kobasew first line was a good idea.
They were one of the NHL's flagship teams while I was growing up and haven't even come close to those levels since the 04 lockout, which gutted an expensive veteran team.
They're now one of the most fiscally responsible teams in the league to go with that young core.
While their biggest need is a first pairing lefty to play with EJ, their best center only has two years left on his deal and might get traded for that first pairing lefty next summer, opening a spot for MacKinnon to join Dutchy and Radar in forming the league's beastliest young set of centers. They also have the winger depth to roll 3 scoring lines so all 3 can flourish.
And finally, because Greg from Accounting deserves a break, he's worked miracles with Pracey drafting exclusively 5'10" gritty centers from Canadian juniors...
