I agree that this is not about loyality. Both sides have shown loyality towards each other over the past few years, but unfortunately it really does come down to "what have you done for me lately." Johnson has been a valuable member of the organization over his tenure here, but his role within the lineup has simply evolved into something that is better suited by another player heading into the future. The time is now for each side to get a clean break. I believe that given a reduced role on a team needing a veteran, defensive center with good faceoff skills that Johnson can continue to play for several years and be productive.

With Shero in Pittsburgh...will Johnson follow him there to help guide some of the younger players on the team? Faceoffs were a real weak spot for the Penguins throughout much of the season and they truly can use a boost in the leadership department. I don't know how that fit would be.
