Yeah, I might still go out and buy a car (for example) but if I can buy the same car for four hundred dollars less in Tolleson than I can in Glendale (because of the difference in sales tax rate), why wouldn't I?? And then Glendale loses that tax money to Tolleson. They end up hurting themselves.
I'm completely with you if we were talking about a national sales tax or a VAT.
