Prospects Stats Update - November

Stats as of Nov 30
* denotes rookies
Italics mean the player is not on the team at the moment (promoted/demoted)

MINOR PRO

Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins (AHL, 12-7-0-0, 3rd in East Division)

After starting the season 2-5 the Baby Pens put it together last month going 10-2, good for fifth in the Eastern Conference. Much of the credit for the turnaround has to go to Jeff Zatkoff and his mindboggling 8-1 run with a 1.21 GAA, .955 SP and three shutouts.

WBS still does not have a captain but they have found a favorite opponent. On Nov 4 Paul Thompson scored a natural hat trick, his first as a pro, against Bridgeport. The Sound Tigers were burned again Nov 16 when Eric Tangradi took back the team lead in goals from Thompson, scoring every WBS goal in a 3-1 win. It was his second career AHL hat trick, and first in almost two years. Tom Kühnhackl scored his first AHL goal Nov 25, Brian Dumoulin followed suit five days later.

Joe Morrow is on a 12 game goalless streak and managed just 1 assist in 8 November games. He was a healthy scratch four times last month. Alex Grant has been hit even worse by the logjam on defense, getting scratched for 13 games already.

The IR list has started to clear. Robert Bortuzzo (lower-body) returned to action Nov 2, followed by Keven Veilleux who returned to play Nov 14, having missed over a year with a torn ACL. A week later rookie center Jayson Megna made the lineup for good after missing a month with an ankle injury. Finally, Zack Sill (upper-body) has been cleared to return after six weeks on the shelf.

Wheeling Nailers (ECHL, 6-8-2-1, 4th in Atlantic Division)

Getting hit hard with injuries to key point producers like Chris Barton, Denver Manderson and Zach Hansen, the Nailers sit tied for fewest goals scored in the league. On Nov 30 Wheeling brought back offensive defenseman Andrew Hotham from Cincinnati. The son of former Penguin Greg Hotham racked up 47 points in 56 games plus ECHL All-Star honors with the Nailers last season. The same day Wheeling also acquired scoring winger Chris Higgins from Utah, and received Keven Veilleux and Dominik Uher from WBS.

In what has become a yearly tradition, Patrick Killeen is about to lose his starting job to his intended backup. This time it's former Coyotes draft pick Scott Darling who has Killeen beat at every stat, has the team's only shutout (Nov 18 against Evansville) and already saw some call-up action with the AHL's Hamilton Bulldogs last month.

Adam Payerl missed the second half of November with an injury, and for whatever reason Reid McNeill hasn't played a game since Nov 17.

D Carl Sneep (25, 2nd rd. '06): 1-5-6, 11 PIM, +6 (9 gp)
F Keven Veilleux (23, 2nd rd. '07): 2-1-3, 0 PIM, +0 (4 gp)

G Patrick Killeen (22, 6th rd. '08): 3-5-2-1, 3.20 GAA, .883 SP, 0 SO

NCAA

Ben Hanowski returned to action Nov 23 after missing a month with a concussion. He scored 3 points in his second game back. Kenny Agostino scored 10 points in six games and is leading Yale in points.

Josh Archibald ended a great month with a 3 point game Nov 30 against Minnesota. He scored 9 points in 7 November games, all UNO wins. After sophomore-slumping to only 1 point in his first 8 games, Scott Wilson came alive in the second half of November, posting 1 goal and 6 assists in his last three games.

Sean Maguire posted his first career NCAA win Nov 16, 6-2 against Vermont, followed by his first shutout, 4-0 over St. Lawrence, on Nov 24.

JUNIOR LEAGUES

Quebec Major Junior Hockey League:

Anton Zlobin's scoring streak ended at 15 games, totalling 27 points from Oct 7 to Nov 14. He has been a consistent producer so far, getting at least 1 point in 21 of his 25 games. Zlobin recorded an assist with 2 PIM and a +0 as the Russian juniors split their Super Series against the Q, 6-2 and 2-5.

F Anton Zlobin (19, 6th rd. '12): 14-22-36, 8 PIM, +9 (25 gp)

Ontario Hockey League:

The London Knights are on a 13 game winning streak and after a mediocre start are now 1st in the entire league. Scott Harrington played in Game 4 of the Super Series and finished with 0 points or penalties, and a -1 for allowing a last minute 6-on-5 Yakupov goal. Team OHL won 2-1 to even the series.

Matia Marcantuoni returned to action Nov 11 after missing 4 games with a finger injury. The Soo Greyhounds are playing some firewagon hockey this season, being 5th in goals scored and 2nd in goals allowed. Matt Murray stopped 51 shots in a 5-4 win over Sudbury Nov 23. A brutal 2-13 month saw the Peterborough Petes drop to last place in the league. At least Clark Seymour set a new career high in points.

D Scott Harrington (19, 2nd rd. '11): 1-6-7, 16 PIM, +8

D Clark Seymour (19, 5th rd. '12): 2-7-9, 21 PIM, -4 (27 gp)

Western Hockey League:

While the Winterhawks are sitting pretty in 2nd place in the league, the team's alleged tampering with player benefits is making all the headlines. Coach/GM Mike Johnston has been suspended for the rest of the season, and the team was fined 200,000 dollars and will have to forfeit their 1st round pick for the next FIVE drafts. Apparently Seth Jones (who had stated he'd go to North Dakota only to immediatly sign with Portland after they traded for his WHL rights) was the final straw. Former NHL forward and current Winterhawks assistant Travis Green takes over as interim head coach.

Derrick Pouliot had 0 points, 0 PIM and a team-worst -4 rating as Team WHL lost the final Super Series game 3-6 to Russia. The series ended in a 3-3 tie, with each major junior league posting a win and a loss.

Portland Winterhawks (21-4-1-0, 1st in U.S. Division)
D Derrick Pouliot (18, 1st rd. '12): 5-19-24, 27 PIM, +16
