It's not irrelevant. The NHL is open for the European players as well and they are as eligible for the NHL draft as the Canadian players. Sure there might still exist bias towards the North American players since their style is often better suited for North American game, but the fact that Canadian players dominate the NHL draft year in and year out speaks volumes for the high talent level produced by the Canadian junior system.
