The WJC is much more meaningful than the WC at least to Canadians.
It's more about the experience than development. I don't see how it will hurt him, i think that it'll be a great experience for him if anything.
I'm sure that he'll look back one day and be glad that he was able to represent his country at the WJC.
It has a lot to do with it as he's no longer an amateur.

It's like saying a world boxing champion should go to the Olympics.

At this point in his career it's a step back and I question whether or not he would really want to be there.
