I think the Stanley Cup trustees has said that they wont allow the cup to be contested for this season for non-NHL-teams. They dont want to make a mockery of the trophy in that manner. In the future i think the trustees should stay true to the trophys original purpose, "Given to the best team in the Dominion of Canada", except that becouse they stretched that to North America, than they can stretch it to other parts in the world as well. Somehow the KHL needs to prove to the trustees that they are worthy contestants and maybe we have a chance here. Hell, between 1915-23 they even played under different rules between the leagues, meaning on home ice yours, away from home theirs. I'm thinking that the KHL plays on bigger ice and has some tweaks here and there in the rules.
