Veterans Memorial rarely holds events that would compete with USAir Center or Arena. The new arena at Grand Canyon University does, but it's limited to 7,000 seating for concerts. Also Wells Fargo (at ASU) doesn't book that many non-sporting events (from what I could find).

Currently the biggest problem with getting acts booked is the more with the current arena management (NHL) than anything.
