Pronger is not a product of an old NHL. When the strict enforcement of obstruction began in 2005-06 he led 3 different teams to the Stanley Cup Finals, winning a Cup in 2007. One could argue his calm demeanor in his own end and elite breakout pass was enhanced by the reduction of holding and hooking. With a more aggressive forecheck, the ability of a defenseman to quickly and effectively transition his team to offense became even more valuable

Nonetheless, most likely this move is because Lauren, his wife, wants to close to her family and long-time social circles in St. Louis.
