My standard tip is 20% even if they're bad, and it goes up if the server is good at their job. The only way you'd ever get less than that from me was if you showed a complete lack of caring or disrespect to me or someone in my party.
When I lived in Boston, I always took care of the delivery guys. A few extra bucks on a delivery went a long way to ensuring they took care of you. We used to order out so often that the delivery guys all knew us and would come to our place first because we took care of them.
Anyone who's worked for tips will generally be a generous tipper.
In other news, my son came home from school today with a big chip in his front tooth.
