Trapp is seriously overrated.

He joined the Leafs in 2002 and had nothing to do with the drafting of Steen, Stajan, and Kronvall in that year's draft. Wellwood was drafted in 2001.

He was in charge of the 2003, 2004, and 2005 drafts. Still too early to tell but all we are looking at from the 2003 and 2004 drafts are the very overrated Justin Pogge and Jeremy Williams as decent bets to make the NHL. Nothing great... however in his defense he had no 1st rounder in 2003 and no 1st or 2nd rounder in 2004.

Whoever was in charge of amateur scouting the three previous years before Trapp did a far better job. Boyes, all those defensemen in 2001 (Cola, Bell, Harrison, etc ...), Steen, Stajan, Kronvall.

The Leafs farm system is in a putrid state because they threw away too many assets (young players, high draft picks) in the two years leading up to the lockout, not because they didn't draft well before Trapp came along.
