Who are you referring to here? Teixeira? Wilson? Hamilton?

Hamilton of course wasn't a product of the Rangers' farm system to begin with. Giving him a long-term deal wouldn't have been a good idea. He won't age well. His mercurial attitude and questionable effort combined to wear out his welcome here. The time to win with Hamilton has come and gone. He gave the team some great performances but ultimately it wasn't enough. The Rangers will remain competitive by continuing to incorporate young talent while eschewing bad contracts. Personally I wouldn't have offered him any contract at all, even a short-term one.

Wilson was no great loss either. He's just not a guy you can rely on ultimately.

Moving Teixeira was one of the best moves of the last decade.

The Rangers choose to spend money on players with upside who can provide surplus value, like Darvish and Beltre. They're not some small market team on a shoestring budget. When homegrown players perform and are young enough to contribute for the future they'll be retained, like Kinsler.

Now if they fail to sign Andrus and he walks in UFA then you might have a point.
