Benoit's return boosts Binghamton Senators' blueline

“He’s an all-around leader,” Richardson said. “He’s a mellow guy and guys aren’t afraid to come talk to him, yet I’ve also seen him yell and scream a few times if guys aren’t going hard every day.

“He leads by example. Every day he’s in the gym working hard, and the younger guys notice that. His ‘what can I do to get better’ attitude is infectious.”

Benoit, who scored a career-high 11 goals in the championship season with Binghamton, is a big reason why the B-Sens have seen an increased offensive production in all of their defensemen. The unit has scored 21 of the team’s 67 goals, which is the highest percentage in the league.

“Obviously our main job is to protect our goalie and prevent breakdowns in the defensive zone, but any time a team can get offensive production from the defense it’s going to make things difficult for opposing teams,” Benoit said.
