Some players have longevity like Chelios or Borque, while others fade quickly early in their career; JayBo is likely one of those that has a mid-career decline while most are still in their prime. If you look at the types of seasons that JayBo had since 2006-2007, it's on a gradual, but inexorable decline. In fact, he has never had a season in Calgary that warrants top-pairing assignment; especially in the last season, not only is his production lower than his skills indicate, his +/- is an atrocious -21, by far the worst in career. Along with that, his ability to make good judgement in positional play and make breakouts from defensive zone has rapidly diminished.

The biggest problem however, is his bloated contract, still being paid like a star #1 pick that he used to be. Basically his value to any D-corps on a contender is outweighed by the anchor of his contract, which will limit other possible personelle that they can put together. And given the possible prospect of having to live with a lower cap soon, this is a raw deal for anyone that's crazy enough to trade for him.
