People looking up to athletes is a learned behavior. I have always enjoyed sports, but for me it was always admiration of athletic accomplishments, but it was never about players as role models. If the two connect, that is great but they shouldn't be expected to at a higher rate than actors, musicians or any other type of entertainer.
