Evgeni Malkin Excited to Contribute in New York

When the NHL decided to shake things up with a fantasy draft prior to the 2012/13 season, the Pittsburgh Penguins were awarded to 2nd overall pick. When their former captain, Sidney Crosby, was selected first overall by the Phoenix Coyotes, they knew that they had to bring back Evgeni Malkin. They selected him with their first round pick. Geno was stellar in his last two seasons with Pittsburgh, recording 174 points in 164 games. However, the Penguins had to release him due to salary cap issues.

On July 8th, 2014, Malkin signed with the New York Rangers for eight years at $10.7 million dollars per year.

"I will miss Pittsburgh," said Malkin. "But I'm happy to be in New York. I help bring cup to Pittsburgh... now I help bring it to NYC."

The all-star Russian forward recorded two goals and an assist in his debut with the Rangers, playing on a line with Milan Michalek and Cam Atkinson.
