Murray Makes Trade only days after becoming GM
September 30, 2012

Meet the newest Dallas Stars

Well only days after becoming GM, Dan Murray made his first deal and was a little upsetting to some fans. The Avalanche received defenseman Mark Fistric and center Tom Wandell in exchange for defenseman Duncan Siemens and right winger Milan Hejduk. Both sides received what they needed. Dallas is looking at a long term approach which is why they wanted the highly-toted prospect Siemens but they also wanted to still have a fighting chance during the season which is why they received Hejduk.

The same is for the Avalanche who wanted to bolster an already deep core of defensemen and wanted to make the playoffs this year so they will have hard-hitting, gritty guy like Mark Fistric. Tom Wandell will be the finishing touch on a skilled list of centers on the Avalanche.

Some fans of the Stars were disapointed about the deal. One told us, "I think this is going to be like in 2010-2011. We trade Neal for Goligoski, who at the time was having a great season compared to Neal who was not. And then boom next year what do you know Neal gets an 81-point season while Goligoski barely breaks 30." While the fan has a point, Murray believes this trade will really help the team.

Details of the trade are listed below:

D Mark Fistric
C Tom Wandell

D Duncan Siemens
RW Milan Hejduk
