Also, most of South Florida is a dump. There are beaches, yes. There are also slums, rampant crime, gangs, violence, etc, just like EVERY major metropolitan area.

The Detroit area and Michigan in general is hardly worse than most NHL cities... Pittsburgh, Columbus, Buffalo, etc.

Seems like a lot of folks in this thread are just thinking "durrr palm trees", and an ACTUAL hockey player would likely be able to weigh a little more into their thought process than that.
- No state income tax
- Fantastic weather
- Able to fly under the radar
- Nicer city in consideration of everything (even if you want to argue marginally so)


- good hockey history

It really is an easy choice IMO
