Because it doesn't do much, it can be dangerous and most guys use it to compensate for their small you know whats because they can throw a dozen plates on it while thinking it means something.
It allows you to continue training legs even if your lower back is knackered, works for me given I put deadlifts into my leg day.
Simple solution. Squat then deadlift.
