The Raiders have a GM now, that's a pretty good start. But the cap situation is horrendous, and our best player misses 8 games a year. So at a position we are supposed to be stable (RB), we're gonna have to start over there. That plus whatever happens with Palmer is going to take us all the way back to square one, right back where we were before the team was on the up and up for two years.
We are at least 4 years away due to the cap situation. Have to cut a lot of guys in order to fix it, but there will be consequences for a while that prevent us from shortly turning it around. This is the long term effect of restructuring contracts in order to get under the cap. You do it once because the consequences of cutting guys mean you actually can't get under the cap, you have to do it again and again, and eventually the bubble is going to pop. This year it's going to pop, because we absolutely have to cut and trade guys, not restructure anymore. Hopefully we will get some real cap room for 2014 by doing it.
The Raiders also have to get a 2nd rounder, however possible. Best way is probably by trading McFadden.
The Chargers/Chiefs are both starting over just like us, so it isn't that bad, but we need a good playcaller. Only for 2 years of the last 10 can I remember any playcaller making more of what we have on offense than less than what we have. And of course we aren't bringing back Hue Jackson nor should we, so someone else has to be found. We cannot go on with this Greg Knapp, Tom Cable, Lane Kiffin, Art Shell, Bill Callahan type mess any longer. I would rather have Norv back as an OC than do this again, at least in that station he can do his job well.
