Lockout Lifted, NHL Will Play 42 Game Season

Commissioner Gary Bettman announces the news to fans.

Finally, after three horrible months of boredom, fans of the NHL can cheer again - their favourite league is back. The NHLPA and the league came to an agreement over a new CBA and the season will begin on January 10th, 2013. It will last 42 games, so that the Stanley Cup Finals will finish in mid or late June. The Habs will begin their shortened campaign with a match in Philadelphia against the Flyers.

"We're excited to finally get things going," said Montreal captain Brian Gionta. "It may have taken a long time, but we've finally created a CBA that is great for both sides."

Here is Montreal's starting lineup for the 2012-13 season:
