I mean, it does make sense to some degree. Teams are put together for a short time and they're not pro level teams, they're just collections of talented but immature players playing in a short tournament.

Players want to stand out, or are used to being able to beat everyone on talent like they sometimes can in juniors, or whatever, but it often makes for some really sloppy hockey.

A big part of pro level hockey isn't just how talented you are, but how well you can play a team game and minimize your mistakes while still being productive. Trying to dangle through everyone all the time, like what occurs at the WJC level, doesn't really cut it at the NHL level, but players can get by at the lower levels.

Really I guess I'm just complaining about the lack of structure and team play in these tournaments which is a bit of a silly thing to complain about
