That sound does not exist in English (to my knowledge). No English letter will do. It's equivalent to the French "u".

Lid-man was reasonably close, going to Lood-man instead is just stupid. Even more so in French, btw, because French does have the "" sound.
"LUHD-man" seems to be about as accurate as I can think would fit.
