Bits o' Checkers Business

The Checkers signed their first two players for the upcoming season. First, the Checkers agreed to terms with defenseman Kenton Smith. Smith was named Checkers' captain last season after Ryan Cuthbert's season-ending injury and had his best pro season with 10G and 27A in 72 games.

The 2nd signee is a newcomer to Charlotte and the ECHL, forward Daymen Bencharski-Roycroft. Roycroft, a 2nd year pro, suited up for the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees in the CHL last season and notched 25G and 30A in 59 games. Beofre turning pro, Roycroft played at Ohio State with Nate Geunin. (Although if there's any connection that's relevant to this signing, it's that Rio Grande's coach is the brother of Checkers' AC Alan Egeland.)
