Leafs dish out some 25 million to buyout DiPietro which counts as an expense on the books and lessens money they pay out to the NHL weaklings. therefore, 25 million isn't really 25 million. They end up with 2 firsts, and Komisarek off the books without having to buy him out.
Next trade a 2nd to Montreal for Gomez and a first. Buy out Gomez...same principle.
Go into 2014 draft 3 top 20 picks, no Komisarek, trade for Luongo (if he retires, Canucks absorb the remaining cap hit) and there is still money to throw at Getzlaff, Lupul, Perry, Kessel extension, etc.
Burke is actually in good shape coming out of this CBA as opposed to the Leafs after the last CBA.
How does trading DiPietro for Komisarek get them to the cap floor? That doesn't even gain them any cap. That actually helps them lose it. That makes 0 sense.
