Why would insurance be paying his salary? He's never been on IR.
RD played a total of 8 games in 2011-2012 and a combined total of 47 games the last 4 seasons. It's a pretty good bet that once the season starts up, his body won't be able to take the pace, will let his down again.
The isles and DiPietro's agent could make the case to the insurance co, that DiPietro's unable to play more then a handful of games, without his hips/groin issues landing him on IR.
DiPietro would have to be

It doesn't sound like he's willing to do that. I think after his last 2011-2012 injury and surgery, he told Newsday that retirement hadn't crossed his mind.
