Any gains made on Wednesday seemingly went by the wayside on Thursday amid rancor between both sides over the league’s attempt to alter the definition of HRR – hockey-related revenue.

Although that was cleared up on Thursday, the union quickly responded by asking its membership for another vote on filing a disclaimer of interest. By noon on Friday, it looked more and more likely there wouldn't be any face-to-face bargaining at all at least until Saturday.

Obviously, neither side is feeling warm and fuzzy about the other right now with NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman’s Jan. 11 deadline to get a CBA very much in sight.

So what kind of expectations does the league have going into today’s sessions?

“Low,” deputy commissioner Bill Daly said in an e-mail this morning.

its not looking good right now. i'm very disappointed in all parties involved.
