He played in the minors for the better part of two seasons and was willing to play there again, but only if the Rangers signed him to a guaranteed contract, so he'd be paid the same amount wherever he was assigned. And he's actually playing in a better league now (at 10X what he'd be making on a two-way contract), so this was really a win-win for everyone.
